Kohimarama Courtyard

Although this townhouse courtyard is small in size, the rectilinear layout and minimal colour palette make a bold statement within the space. The courtyard is contemporary in style with a Japanese influence and responds well to the modern style of the architecture.

The rear garden consists of three terraces linked by stairs. The Living room leads directly to the upper terrace which features strong architectural planting in three large concrete planters. Within the middle terrace a series of dark concrete pavers set in a loose white chip surface lead the eye towards a Japanese style water feature highlighted against a vibrant red wall.

The lower terrace features another row of pavers and concrete planters to link to the upper and middle terraces providing continuity within the garden space. The minimalist colour palette gives emphasis to the form and foliage of the planting within the rear garden and gives the garden a contemporary edge.

The restrained colour palette of black and light grey is continued in the entrance garden. The planting here is mass planted in blocks to create a lusher garden and an inviting entrance to the front door of the house.
